The road to success and smarts is not as far as you think,
But you must focus, not much time remains to even blink, For working hard shall reward your labours, And lazing around shall not prove much on the papers, Whatever your dream, whatever your aspiration, Thomas Edison said “genius is 1% inspiration and 99% percent perspiration.” This may sound cheesy to you but I assure you, dreams are no joke, If one day you find yourself with no aim, you won’t be far from broke! Not all of us can get lucky and win the lottery, But we can focus on our mastery, Whatever your talent may be, from an English expert to the next top athlete, You need to remain as consistent as a healthy heartbeat, There are no room for excuses in this world, As you discover yourself your skills will have unfurled, And can then proceed to turn into the person you always dreamt of, You may turn around at this poem and scoff, Unfortunately, there is no escaping the truth, I write this poem to encourage the fellow youth, For we are a generation filled with as many dreams and hopes, As there are stars in the sky invisible from our telescopes, I find it unfortunate that a group of us with so much potential be going to waste, And for what we could have achieved, our future will never be able to taste, Many more marvellous men and women have risen up to improve our world, You shall discover yourself, your skills will be unfurled, David Attenborough, Malala Yousafzai, Kailash Satyarthi, Jane Goodall, Denis Mukwege Mukengere, Judi Bari, And I ask you to join these remarkable people, these wondrous achievers, And stop ourselves with the make believers, and push those dreamers, For we can never be too great living on this humble abode, All of us living by an ethical moral code, I would like to leave a lasting impression here on those here, young and old, Wherever you are, whoever you are, whatever you aim for, no dream is too bold, It doesn’t matter where you are, what you’re doing, you can start right away, Don’t sit around, go and change the world yourself, not by a simple pray, Where we have reached today we only reached because of revered human minds, Our progress marked by the camaraderie of mankind, Shaped into what we have by innovative minds and hard working brains, I don’t ask any of you to win the Nobel Peace Prize, that’s not what should remain, But to change the world in your own way, to keep hope no matter what, For that is the aim of this poem that I have sought, And to remember that, in conclusion, anyone has the power in their hands To change things according to your heart and mind’s demands, Only dependant on what you do with the power you hold amongst yourselves, And to not delve too deep into ourselves, Success shall bore sweet fruit, As long as you provide it with enough hard work, and it shall be astute!

Let’s give it a try.
It all starts now, it starts with us. We’ve heard the cries. We hear protests and the fuss. Watched television Read the news we receive. We cause only destruction and we refuse to believe We can help This isn’t a shock. The earth is dying and We are the cause. When music charts were torn with the meaning of a song, We sang along, but didn’t catch on Rivers filthily flow with floating, greased fish. There’s a lot that has been destroyed or completely gone. Activists speak gibberish. They say “Don’t invest in the wrong places or we’re done”. There is no hope It’s impossible that The world will change in its slightest scope Start investing in the market not Investing for the planet. Let’s start, The Present is more important than The future (Now read from bottom to top) Let the hush of peace resonate,
Let the beauty of wonder fill the hollow hearts of the dark. Savour the beauty of solitude, And let it wash away the grief of the past. Enjoy the awe of wonder, As the bright futures can bloom, only in those that embraces. Spread the magic and beauty of starlight, As it ignites the candle of hope, that shines past the grasp of evil. Blow away the blur of fog, And view the world through a transparent eye. Then, will you see the true wonder, That was shadowed for centuries past. Take that hand – hold it, Let the warmth of harmony fill you. Look up, The world is now a better place. Because the smallest inches of beauty, Are the building blocks, for a better world? Sometimes we drift apart,
From the ones to whom we opened up our hearts. Little did we know that we'd delve into a void. Which has the ability to remain infinitely dark. Maybe they're gone, And their presence can no longer be redeemed. Only the memories live, The times where their indulgence was esteemed. I knew a person, who seemed to yield all the love in the world. If only we met, the stories we would have told. Fate was not easy going, it separated us cruelly. But hopefully now she knows that, I miss her truly. This woman was no friend, she was much more than that. I knew things would end, but would I have been a spoiled brat? Just to listen to her stories, or feel the delicate touch of her hand. Gain her experiences, acknowledge what I had. One day it all collapsed, and into that forsaken void I fell. Did I really know her? I couldn't even tell. I know she sees me now, but I wish I could've seen. What losing this person, could actually mean. To feel you were close, to someone you never met. Is what made me unable to vanquish disconcert. So if you still have the presence of your loved ones. Please rush to them, And hug them before the time runs. For you would regret not doing so, And into that void, you'd disorderly go. My sleepless meditation
In abundant measure To anticipate it’s becoming into a solemn undertaking That’s isolated at my waking Such harm, such discord that came so vacant an antidote of innocence A shivering solitude of magnificence Though the seasons change Our hearts remain Do you believe it exists? Peace? strange, complicated, desolated but above all epic. So relinquished and so tormented Aching for a rebirth.. yet it exists It lives in everything we hold dear. it can only subsist. the greatness of humanity is not to be human but to be humane Pick a star on the dark horizon And follow its light That is the promise of peace leading me where my trust is without borders step by step I move on and get on with life That one day after a long life We find each other again You will stay true Even if the lies come Even in the chaos Your word remains truth In conquest for tranquility In an eternal mortality that is the promise of peace From Across This Ocean
Can you hear me? From across this ocean, that isolates humans and humans Shut out all the commotion The deafening, yearning, waves of the profound Forming, frothing, spitting, carving us into the ground You are all that I see Gaunt, dust strewn cheeks, Your desolate, piercing eyes, that have embraced all of chaos, never leave me, never cheat Your ribs are a sword, they impale me Leaving only a hole, precise and neat In this deafening tranquillity You are all that I hear Shells, raining overhead A bare dinner table, a thin crust of bread Your scream, anguished and guttural and somehow unearthly real You are all that I feel, Hunger, the hum of an insatiable knife, hollowing you from the inside out Numb pain, from wounds that will heal in ions, no doubt Loss, a part of you, missing, served neatly on a plate Cold, a devouring, slicing figure of fate You are all that I am And in you, I see myself, Stumbling through a dream that leads to no awakening Snatched from the hands of misfortune, I am, yet, that constant beckoning My stomach is always full, but your hunger is mine Open your eyes, do you see me? Reach out, from across this sea These mighty, heedless waves will taunt us no more, oh, let them roar Monsters are on their way, All of humanity, they look to slay The clouds are heavy, its about to rain We will show the heartless, devour this darkness Assemble a fleeting magnitude of childhood creation, a bridge across this void, Pulling rabbits out of hats, we will get to the other side! A deep breath, quivering, hesitantly defiant Grasp my hand, together we will plunge into this lake To discover cold black truth For we are Dreamers, wide Awake -Anandita Abraham Places of hope
Prophecies for heroics don’t comfort me in the beauty of hope But what comforts me is the normalcy element of hope From a student’s academic grades of expectancy To the words and phrases in poetry But sometimes you could find yourself at the hands of contentment And in the harsh terrains of society, that made me feel small And usually that would tempt me to fall in a pit of disparity But this filled me with hope and gratitude I felt content when there is hope in watching the stars Not when I am among them Sometimes the average or the middle is hope sometimes knowing that is hope sometimes hope is enough and so, I stopped writing this ‘average-leveled’ poem and it was enough. Yes, I am a child
Yes, I am a child Less than eighteen years of age In school no less And so I cannot have rage I live a good life So I do not know anything I do not know struggle I do not know to what shallow lies we cling I do not know of the murder Of the war, of the starvation we face So I must be quiet Otherwise, I’d be out of place I am fortunate enough to have a voice So I should shut up, keep quiet, be grateful I have a choice. But is it because they think I shouldn’t speak? Or is it that no one should, no matter strong or weak. Not if you’re happy, Not if you’re sad Because however you are There’s someone going through worse, so be glad Yes, I am a child Perils of a War
Written By: Adonia Joseph The silence of the living, A void of life, Pulsing with pain and anxiety, Buried under the strife Lucky were the victims, Oblivious to the misery, Resting sweetly in their graves, Death being a victory A planet once alive, Succumbing to blood and rust, A shadow of evil lurking, Crumbling worlds to dust Angels fell from the clouds, Reigning were the demons, Heaven turned inside out, Beast clothed as human Torn were the holy ties, That bound country in unity, Brother against brother, Enraged within a mutiny Fragments of spirit, Hearts in a fleece, Hope for a new tomorrow, An unspoken shot at global peace REMEMBER THIS
By Arren Angel Mercado The silence is deafening As you lie awake in bed, You haven't surrendered yet You made it through the day. So aware of your surrounding Each breath you take is ragged. You pull the sheets way closer And let the darkness swallow you. Whatever you're going through, Keep in mind you're not alone You didn't pull the trigger, Remember it's not your fault. Your mind might play tricks on you But look at the bright side, You're still breathing And you're still alive. Find someone you can talk to Find someone who won't judge. Now let them be your hope Don't ever let them go. Life might throw problems at you But nothing that you can't do. Don't belittle your abilities, Your powers to conquer it through. I am no one to judge you I don't know what you're going through But please just listen Seek for advice and let people in. Remember you are worth it Remember it's not your fault Remember you're important Remember you're not alone. You might be in the dark at the moment But there's hope for everyone. The light is at the end of the tunnel Just hang on by the thread. Please don't give up now, You've made it quite this far. It will get better, I know. Now please keep that in mind. |
