‘ The Poetic Heart’ symposium is a platform for budding poets from different schools to showcase their talent through poetry. The theme this year was ‘’Bridging the Gap’’ inspiring students from almost 40 schools to express themselves, thereby giving them an opportunity to step into the literary world. Our students witnessed the wonderful event and Arundhati from grade 10 presented her piece of work to a panel of renowned authors and an amazing audience of more than 500. The symposium was concluded with the band performance by Winchester School and a couple of recitations by the Emirati poet Nujoom Al Ghanem.
It was a proud moment for us as a school and as a department when our AS Level student, Niranjana Ramakrishna’s poem was selected to be included and read at the prestigious POETIC HEART event held annually. Her poem was selected out of several hundred participants. She also read her poem out at the event and received a memento for the same.My mother, My inspiration, My love, There are no words to describe her enough She was created by God, To take care and nurture us, Always thinking of us, night or day She is selfless, A warrior in pain Whenever I am sick, she is stressed, Checking and calling me for fever or anything else, Constantly asking if I am okay, Probably more often when I am away My mother has a very good sense of humor, Cracking jokes at a spur, Confidence and to love myself is what I inherit from her She has taught me to laugh at myself, Because she says no one is perfect, My mother tells me to always be kind, She says being a good human is above all bear in mind, I know she will give her coat off her back, Others pain and suffering she cannot bare Any person doing wrong she will not spare Every time I give up she says, Stand up my baby, You cannot lose hope now, There will be many problems coming your way, Are you then going to sway? My mother wants me to study hard Become someone she can be proud I will surely fulfill her dreams Because she sacrificed so much for me The smile on her face I wish to see everyday, Never want her to be sad or in pain, She has given us so much joy, I wish I could somehow repay All mothers are angels from Heaven above, Cherish and respect them with love, Take care of when she is old, Do not leave her alone when she needs you most. By Aditi Naik Year 11 To set the world free, You’d have to see; What clasps its imprisonment, So you cannot testify claiming ‘lack of acknowledgement;’ Adolescents like you and me, Forced to pay their country’s greedy fee Scattered around the world they are famished and droughty; Imprisoned by robust chains of poverty Take me to the see of freedom, Where none is found of racism Let me sail my boat proud, Reinforced by a cheery crowd Divide me not from rich or poor There is no need for this extra chore Favour them not for their pulchritude, From these tasks take interlude Then ye’ will be taken to the see of freedom, Where politics and wars are seldom All aboard the ship of tranquility, There you may rejoice for infinity. My mother would be an elephant And I, her calf, born blind from the world Clueless and naïve A full time baby sitter An ‘all mother’ she is My mother would be an alligator And I, her hatchling Cold blooded she may seem Threaten me and you shall see How fierce and feisty she really is My mother would be a cheetah And I, her cub Instincts I may not have To give me sense is what she does The greatest governess is who she is My mother would be an orangutan And I, her young Comfort is what I seek Denies she never does Cuddles is what she gives My mother would be an otter And I, her whelp Grounded and closed Engulfed in her kelp, she makes me feel safe My mother would be a seal And I, her pup In the midst of thousands She can see and spot She knows me inside and out My mother is a special woman And I, her child Tethered to life Her love knows no bounds To infinity and beyond |
